The City Palace is a divine example of Stupendous Architecture. It follows a fine synthesis of Rajasthani and Mughal styles. There are many structures inside the complex like courtyards, gardens and various buildings. Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal and Badal Mahal are some of the splendid small palaces of the City Palace. The grand palace also comprises of a temple called Shri Govind Temple and the City Palace museum.
The Mubarak Mahal or Palace of Reception, inside the palace complex was constructed by Sawai Madho Singh. Now the palace is occupied by a costume gallery of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II museum containing the regal costumes like exotic Pashmina Shawls, Benarasi silk saris, Sanganeri prints, embroidery and the voluminous clothes worn by the giant Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I (ruled 1750-68).
The next architectural wonder in a row here is the Maharani's Palace. The palace displays lethal weapons , many of them belonging to the 15th century. Diwan-i-Aam is the store house of rare ancient, handwritten original manuscripts of Hindu scriptures, delicate miniature paintings in Rajasthani, Mughal and Persian schools and engrossing painted ceilings. Diwan -I-Khas owns world's two largest sterling vessels that were made for Sawai Madho Singh II while he was on a voyage to England. Chandra Mahal Palace is the present residence of the royal family, which also houses a multi cuisine restaurant. Visitors also get to see beautiful peacock while they are on the ground floor of the palace.
Truly, the City Palace is a historical wonder that prompts us of our glorious past that is immortal.
